Jerry Jones hints at possible trades before the Cowboys’ deadline

The NFL trade deadline is nearing, with trades allowed until 4:00 p.m

The NFL trade deadline is nearing, with trades allowed until 4:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Earlier in the season, the Dallas Cowboys suggested they were not planning any trades. However, following their recent struggles, the front office seems more receptive to potential moves.

Stephen Jones noted they would consider trades “if the right deal pops up.” His father echoed this sentiment during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan, indicating that he might act if something appealing arises and emphasizing they “look for all the meat on the bone that can improve our team.”

When asked about significant trades before the deadline, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated, “If I see something … we look for all the meat on the bone that can improve our team,” as reported by — Jon Machota (@jonmachota) November 1, 2024

These remarks contrast sharply with the team’s previous “all-in” claim during the offseason, which turned out to be misleading given their lack of roster improvements.

This leads to skepticism about their intent to pursue trades actively.

Instead, it appears the Joneses may prefer to remain passive, waiting for offers that are too enticing to refuse. If no one presents a solution for their running game, they might simply assert that nothing aligned with their current strategy. Ultimately, this inactivity could put the most pressure on Mike McCarthy, who may bear the brunt of their inaction.

Dalvin Cook of the Dallas Cowboys elevated to the active roster

The Dallas Cowboys may have a new addition in the backfield for their Sunday night matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Running back Dalvin Cook was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster on Saturday. He was signed just before the season began but has not yet been on the active roster.

The former Pro Bowl running back for the Vikings had a challenging season last year, seeing limited action with the New York Jets and playing in one playoff game for the Baltimore Ravens. Still, the Cowboys are optimistic that he can regain some of his previous performance.

Currently, the Cowboys are averaging an NFL-low 77.2 rushing yards per game.

Additionally, the Cowboys placed TE John Stephens on injured reserve after he tore his ACL in practice this week and signed cornerback Amani Oruwariye to the 53-man roster.
