Lazio president Claudio Lotito has said he is interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Fred, but the move has been blocked by manager Maurizio Sarri
It was reported earlier today that Lazio are one of the clubs keen to sign Fred.
Lotito was ready to start talks with United over a potential transfer for the Brazil international.
However, he revealed that Fred would not join his team as former Chelsea manager Sarri did not want to sign him.
He told Il Messaggero (via Manchester Evening News): “I was ready to start talks with Man United and make an offer for Fred but Maurizio Sarri told me no – he doesn’t want Fred.”
“He did the same with [Giovanni] Lo Celso. Sarri wants [Piotr] Zielinski and [Samuele] Ricci.”
Fred is still expected to leave Manchester United this summer
The 30-year-old has just one year on his contract with United and they want to raise money by sacking him this summer.
Fred has made 213 appearances for United since he moved from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018.
He was a great server, often used in big games, with his energy being his greatest asset.
Erik ten Hag, however, wants more technical players in the selection than him.
Mason Mount moved from Chelsea to Old Trafford. He will compete with Christian Eriksen for the eighth place.
United are interested in signing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, but his arrival is conditional on player sales in the coming weeks.
Galatasaray and Fulham are other clubs reported as potential suitors for the Brazilian ace.
The Turkish club made an initial offer for Fred, but United rejected it as they fell short of their £20m asking price.
