The Detroit Lions fell short of securing their first Super Bowl appearance in 2024, but now turn their focus to reloading for another push in 2025.
The offense was among the league’s best in 2024, though there are still some concerns, particularly with the offensive line. Meanwhile, the defense struggled, largely due to injuries.
The Lions have decisions to make regarding their free agents on defense, and they must enhance depth and find long-term solutions for several key positions.
While the team’s roster appears elite and young enough to sustain success, nothing is certain in the NFL. To remain competitive for years, the Lions must make strong selections in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Now, let’s take a look at a four-round mock draft for the Lions using Pro Football Network’s mock draft simulator.
Lions Mock Draft 2025
Round 1, Pick 28: EDGE Mike Green, Marshall
The Lions’ pass rush underperformed in 2024. Even though Aidan Hutchinson was out after early October, he still ended the season as the team’s sack leader with 7.5. Whether or not Za’Darius Smith returns, the Lions need more depth and a long-term solution opposite Hutchinson.
Adding another edge rusher is a top priority. Mike Green from Marshall could be just what the Lions need.
In 2024, Green posted impressive numbers, including 17 sacks and 23 tackles for loss, leading the Sun Belt in sacks. His elite motor and speed off the edge are standout qualities.
While there are concerns about the level of competition he faced, Green could thrive in Detroit, playing opposite Hutchinson. He represents the kind of high-upside prospect the Lions need.
Round 2, Pick 60: OG Wyatt Milum, West Virginia
The Lions have one of the best tackle tandems in the league, but their interior offensive line needs attention this offseason. With Kevin Zeitler possibly leaving in free agency and Graham Glasgow being expendable, there’s room to improve.
Wyatt Milum is a natural fit for Detroit. With 47 games of experience at West Virginia, Milum brings strong football intelligence and consistency, especially in pass protection—making him a great complement to a pocket passer like Jared Goff. He could be a long-term answer for one of the guard positions alongside Christian Mahogany.
Round 4, Pick 132: DT Elijah Roberts, SMU
The Lions have a top-tier edge rusher in Hutchinson and an impactful defensive tackle in Alim McNeill, but the depth on the defensive line is lacking. If D.J. Reader is cut in 2025 or leaves in free agency the following year, the line could be even thinner.
Elijah Roberts might be a steal for the Lions in the mid-rounds. In 2024, he recorded 35 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks for an SMU team that made the College Football Playoff. His motor and athleticism stand out, but his technique has room for improvement, and he’s been inconsistent at times.
A situation like Detroit’s, with veterans like McNeill and Reader, could help Roberts develop. The Lions need high-potential interior defenders, and Roberts fits that role.
