Lions Receiver Devastated by Family Tragedy

A tragedy has struck the family of Maurice Alexander.

A devastating event in Florida has left a member of the Detroit Lions grieving.

According to CBS News Miami, 13-year-old Johvan Taylor was tragically killed in a shooting over the weekend, caught in the crossfire of an incident on Saturday evening. Taylor was the nephew of Lions wide receiver Maurice Alexander.

“Never been this crushed in my life,” Alexander shared on social media Monday.

Taylor was one of two teenagers shot on Saturday. Reports indicate that several gunshots were fired into a group of youths standing outside that evening. The other teen involved is said to be in stable condition.

According to Local News 10 in Miami, at least three bullet holes were discovered in the home where Taylor was standing outside.

A vigil was held for Taylor in Florida City on Sunday, where he was remembered as someone who had a passion for football, dancing, and his family. Miami Dade Police have made no arrests in connection to the incident, and the motive remains unknown.

Dozens of family and friends gathered to honor Taylor’s life during the weekend vigil.

Alexander has gained popularity in the Lions’ locker room since joining the team before the 2022 season. He was briefly on the active roster this season, playing in three games and primarily serving as a return specialist.

The Florida International alum has participated in seven NFL games throughout his career. In addition to his three games this season, he played in four games during the 2022 season.

Lions Cut WR, include Cornerback to Practice Squad

Tom Kennedy

ALLEN PARK – The Detroit Lions have released wide receiver Tom Kennedy as Kalif Raymond inches closer to returning from injured reserve.

Raymond, who has been back on the practice field for the past couple of weeks after suffering a foot injury against the Indianapolis Colts last month, could rejoin the team before the regular season ends. He was ruled out last week, but remains a potential option for a late-season return. Raymond has been fully participating in both practices this week.

In Raymond’s absence, Kennedy has stepped in as a returner. He is familiar with the process of moving between the active roster and the practice squad. Kennedy has played in four games this season, returning one punt and six kickoffs.

The Lions also re-signed defensive back Morice Norris to their practice squad. Norris, who was added to the 53-man roster last week, participated in 20 special teams snaps. Most of his season has been spent on Detroit’s practice squad. Norris, an undrafted rookie free agent, played college football at Orange Coast and Fresno State before joining the Lions.
