Liverpool are negotiating the ‘final price’ as Jurgen Klopp is closing in on his third signing of the summer

Liverpool are still active in the summer transfer window to strengthen Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Liverpool are reportedly still in talks with Southampton to find out the “final price” for Romeo Lavia. Strengthening Liverpool’s midfield was always going to be a priority for Jurgen Klopp this summer, with Thiago Alcantara the only midfield signing since 2018.

The newcomers were even more needed now that Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner are gone. And Liverpool were quick to act early in the window with moves for both Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. A third signing has always been likely but now it looks all the more necessary with Jordan Henderson and Fabinho set to exit. Southampton star Lavia has been touted as a top option for the Reds but talks appear to have stalled in recent weeks.

The reported £50million South Coast price tag has sidelined Liverpool for the time being and they have been looking for alternatives in the market. Crystal Palace star Cheick Doucour has emerged as a potential option but he too would cost a hefty transfer fee.

However, it looks like Liverpool haven’t completely given up on signing Lavia yet, as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims ‘contacts are taking place with the player’s agents’. The report also suggests Liverpool are hoping to trade Southampton down from their initial £50m price tag.

Liverpool are alleged to be “trying to figure out the final price” in the hope of getting the midfielder cheaper. Klopp has already promised fans that at least one more signing will be made before the end of the transfer window.

“There are so many things to do,” he said. “The transfer window is open. If my day had 28 hours right now, that wouldn’t be a problem – I could easily fill them!

“With all the things you have to do left and right, my focus and my energy has to go into the training sessions and that’s what I do. Then I can try to help with other things on both sides of the sessions.

“Three and a half weeks until the first game of the season. A lot has to happen before that, certainly also in the transfer market. It’s clear now.” And it will happen. New players have to come. We will have a good team.”
