Liverpool are leading the race to sign 22-year-old Dutch centre-back Micky van de Ven from Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg.
According to Christian Falk on Caught Offside, Liverpool are keen to sign the services of Micky van de Ven.
The 22-year-old centre-back has made a name for himself in recent seasons. And he’s on the radar of many top clubs across Europe, including Bayern Munich.
Micky van de Ven has gone from strength to strength in recent seasons. Moving into the 2022/23 season, the 22-year-old played 36 games for Bundesliga club Wolfsburg and scored three goals. It was a rock in the heart of the defense and he had just put a foot wrong.
His performances have attracted interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Liverpool.
The German giants are always on the lookout for young talent to strengthen their squad and believe the Dutch defender can be a great addition both now and in the future.
But the Bundesliga giants are trailing Liverpool in the race for the 22-year-old’s services.
The Reds have a slight lead thanks to their new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke. At the time he was in charge of transfers at Wolfsburg and was responsible for bringing Van de Ven to the German club.
Schmadtke helped Wolfsburg sign the Dutch centre-back from FC Volendam in 2021 for just €3.5m. With Schmadtke currently working at Liverpool, he could help them secure a deal with the Bundesliga club for the 22-year-old’s services.
The Merseyside club’s priority at the moment is to strengthen their midfield. But they also want to strengthen their defenses.
Jurgen Klopp is keen to sign someone who can bolster his defensive rotation and provide injury or suspension protection for Virgil van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate. And he believes the 22-year-old can help his cause.
While his contract with the club runs until the summer of 2027, the Dutch defender could pass the course before next season.
His current market value is €18 million. And given Liverpool’s financial solidity, they could expel him from the German club.
