Manchester United and Arsenal will face off in battle for Declan Rice
Arsenal’s hopes of signing Declan Rice could be dashed at the last minute, while Manchester United are set to enter talks with West Ham. The Hammers conceded defeat looking to keep Rice at the club this summer following their Europa Conference League win.
They are still demanding a huge fee for the England international, with Arsenal paving the way for him to be signed. The Gunners have so far rejected two offers, the latest worth £90m.
Arsenal’s second bid was thought to be close to what West Ham are after, suggesting a deal isn’t too far off.
But United appear to believe a deal could be hijacked with the Telegraph reporting they are considering a player-plus-money offer for Rice.
There are rumors that Harry Maguire or Scott McTominay could be on offer with West Ham reportedly interested in the midfielder.
Both players were set to be put up for sale by United this summer to raise money for Erik ten Hag. But strengthening their midfield options is seen as a top priority in the hope they can stay ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Rice.
Mikel Arteta’s side would still be favorites from the West Ham star and a move to the Emirates is seen as “much more likely”. However, United’s interest could work in West Ham’s favor and spark a potential bidding war.
West Ham manager David Moyes is also said to be a big fan of Maguire, with the England defender missing out on the pecking order at Old Trafford. However, there are fears that Maguire could take a pay cut as part of the current deal he is given at United.
It seems that players have also approached on international missions to convince them to move. Luke Shaw caused a stir among United fans when he posted photos of himself alongside Harry Kane and Rice and cheekily wrote:
‘Carrington tour’. The United full-back was nicknamed ‘Agent Shaw’ in response, with the United full-back garnering the speculation.
Rice will be right peck in the square hole for United that can partner with Casemiro to give more energy to the midfield the board should do something fast to get his signature
