AC Milan are leading the race to sign free agent Marcus Thuram after the striker ends his four-year spell at Borussia Monchengladbach.
The 25-year-old has attracted much interest following a productive season in which he scored 13 goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances.
Milan are currently at the helm to secure his services for the next term, according to Sky Sports Germany, although RB Leipzig have also expressed interest in the hope that the striker opts to stay in Germany.
Thuram has also been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea keen to secure his services.
Milan have reportedly offered 10-capped French international Thuram a signing fee of over £8.6m and a salary of around £82,000 a week. No information was given on the duration of the proposed contract.
Thuram could move to a Rossoneri side desperate to revamp their attack following the retirement of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the underperforming seasons of Divock Origi and Charles De Ketelaere.
After finishing fourth – two points behind city rivals Inter Milan – Stefano Pioli’s side secured another season in the Champions League, but the summer season got off to a bad start with the expected departure of Sandro Tonali for Newcastle.
The Italian giants would likely field Thuram in the central attacking position, which he played exclusively last season, but has shown in recent years that he is capable of playing in the top three positions.
That versatility – and the lack of a transfer fee – also makes it an attractive option for Leipzig, whose star player Christopher Nkunku joined Chelsea for £53m on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old’s goalscoring tally was similar to that of fellow countryman Thuram, despite going 16 goals in five fewer games.
Leipzig are believed to be the underdog who can catch Thuram as he has only just entered the race for the powerful striker.
