Manchester United were beaten 2-0 by Real Madrid on Thursday, but despite a spirited relationship, the two stars reunited after full-time to share a sweet moment.
Alejandro Garnacho added another superstar shirt to his collection on Thursday after meeting Vinicius Jr. in the aftermath of Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat by Real Madrid.
Goals from Jude Bellingham and Joselu sealed the 90 minutes to give United’s senior team their first defeat of pre-season at NRG Stadium, Houston. This came less than 24 hours after a younger side lost to Wrexham in San Diego.
The meeting with Real Madrid was quite heated for a pre-season friendly, with Bellingham and Lisandro Martinez clashing in the first half, although it was soon forgotten. But at the end of the season, the players from both teams found each other and were very respectful.
Reds youth winger Garnacho shared a sweet moment with Vinicius after the break as the Madrid star presented his opponent with a signed shirt. The 19-year-old posted a photo of the couple with the caption, “Nice to see you bro! Having a great day at @vinijr.”
In the picture you can see that Vinicius wrote “Para mi hermano”, which means “for my brother” in Portuguese. He goes on to describe the United star as “el crack”, a slang term for a superstar.
Garnacho made his first pre-season start on Thursday, with Erik ten Hag using the teenager on the left flank while Marcus Rashford was in attack. The Argentine looked more direct than ever, as one of many round-the-clock substitutions.
He hopes to emulate Vinicius’ form on the left flank this season while building on an encouraging breakthrough campaign at red.
The transfer window is well underway and United have already secured two players, with Mason Mount and Andre Onana at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag’s attention now turns to signing a new goalscorer after struggling in that area last season. Anthony Martial is the only real striker in United’s squad and his fitness cannot be relied upon, which is why United are considering Rasmus Hojlund and Harry Kane as options.
