Micah Parsons demands two conditions be met before playing for the Cowboys again

Micah Parsons

Micah Parsons sustained an ankle injury during the Week 4 game against the New York Giants, putting the Dallas Cowboys in a difficult position. Following a tough loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 6, the Cowboys were looking to recover.

During the bye week, Parsons appeared to be making progress in healing and was anticipated to play against the San Francisco 49ers. Nevertheless, the team opted to err on the side of caution regarding his recovery.

Earlier reports suggested a strong possibility that Parsons would be ready for the 49ers game, with his recovery outpacing initial expectations. Although it was initially thought he might be out for 4 to 6 weeks, that timeline may still be relevant.

Parsons’ Critical Season and Contract Concerns

This season is crucial for Parsons as it is the last year of his contract with the Cowboys. The team’s decision on his contract renewal is significant, especially in light of recent substantial contracts for quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. With salary cap considerations at play, keeping Parsons will be essential for the team’s future.

At just 25, Parsons has already made a name for himself as one of the NFL’s top pass rushers, recording 41.5 sacks over 54 games. While his impact on the defense is clear, his health and availability are vital.

Advice for Parsons Amid Contract Talks

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk advised Parsons to avoid returning to play until he is fully recovered. He highlighted the risk of aggravating the injury, which could lead to even longer sidelining during this important contract year.

“He should have stayed out longer. Now that he’s injured, he should refuse to return until his high ankle sprain is completely healed, or until the Cowboys offer him the contract he deserves,” Florio asserted.

He also critiqued the Cowboys’ approach to contract negotiations, noting that Parsons has waited patiently for his turn after Prescott and Lamb secured their lucrative contracts. “If the Cowboys had signed those contracts earlier, Parsons could have applied more pressure. Now, he should make some noise,” Florio added.

There are indications that Parsons might return in Week 9 when the Cowboys play the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, November 3. However, many believe that focusing on his long-term future and complete recovery should be the priority.
