Mike Valenti Slams Aidan Hutchinson’s Remarks on Myles Garrett

Detroit Lions EDGE rusher Aidan Hutchinson has stirred up some confusion with his recent comments about the possibility of the team trading for Myles Garrett, one of the NFL’s top defensive players. The remarks came just before the NFL Honors event, where Hutchinson was on the red carpet.

When asked by the Detroit Free Press about trade rumors involving Garrett, the former No. 2 overall pick seemed uncertain about the prospect, stating, “You can’t have that many dudes on one D-line, I don’t know. Who knows, but I think it’s very unlikely?”

Sports radio hosts Mike Valenti and Rico Beard were taken aback by Hutchinson’s response, noting that they’ve never heard a star player dismiss the idea of adding another elite player to the team. Valenti remarked, “What time in history have you ever heard a great player say they didn’t want to be surrounded by other great players?”

After discussing Hutchinson’s comments further, the duo expressed disappointment in his response. Valenti found it to be one of the “dumbest things” he’d ever heard, arguing that there were far better ways Hutchinson could have addressed the question. “If you want to say it’s above your pay grade, you want to stay out of it, I get it. If you want to say, ‘Hell yeah, I’d love to have him, but clearly that decision is made above my head, cool.’ You know what, I’ve never heard from a great player, ‘Nah, we don’t really need that. Can’t have that many good people on a D-line.'”

Valenti speculated that Hutchinson may have been staking a claim to the defense and could be concerned about financial implications if Garrett were to be traded to Detroit and demand a deal worth over $45 million annually. Additionally, Detroit has already made a big investment by extending Alim McNeill with a four-year, $97 million deal.

In an interesting turn of events, a photo surfaced showing Hutchinson talking with Garrett alongside quarterback Jared Goff. This sparked hope among fans that Detroit’s recruitment efforts to bring another star player to the team may already be in motion.
