Player who cost £50m now responds when told not to join Liverpool.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been jokingly asked not to join Liverpool after admitting he was a Reds fan as a youngster.

Speaking on the Diary of a CEO podcast, the England international revealed he was a Liverpool fan growing up, with host and Manchester United fan Steven Barlett urging Toney not to join the Reds.

Toney said: “I’ve been a Liverpool fan all my life but I loved Arsenal, I love watching Arsenal and how they play and how passionate the fans are.” But yes, Liverpool fan, Liverpool boy at heart. ”

Toney is currently serving an eight-month ban for breaking betting rules and has been linked with a move to Liverpool over the years after becoming a Premier League superstar with Brentford.

Worth £50million, Toney scored an impressive 20 goals last season, helping the Bees easily dominate the English top flight. The striker is expected to make a switch in January. And Liverpool could well be the striker’s next target, although Toney’s incredible attacking depth this season could make a move to Anfield difficult.

Toney’s Liverpool dream could be on hold again

Toney’s status as one of the Premier League’s finest strikers is undeniable and had the striker now been punished so harshly by the FA, the striker would likely be in for a huge move this summer.

But with Liverpool being the team he supported as a child, a move to Anfield could set Toney back once the striker returns for Brentford later this season.

Given Liverpool’s options, Toney’s move would make little sense with Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota all available for Liverpool which could ruin the England international’s club dream.

Liverpool are turning their attention to a highly rated midfielder who is available for a fraction of what Moises Caicedo would have cost

Liverpool could benefit from a cut-price buyout clause as they seek to bolster their midfield with a phenomenal defensive midfielder.

It was a grueling few days for the Reds, who looked to have taken Mosies Caicedo past Chelsea, but the Blues eventually beat their rivals. Caicedo is believed to be set to become a UK transfer record at around £115million.

Klopp couldn’t resist a dig at Chelsea after the two drew 1-1 on the Premier League opener – but the Liverpool manager could still find a coveted No.6 to bolster his midfield anyway.

According to ESPN NL, Liverpool are interested in PSV star Ibrahim Sangare, who has been impressing since joining the Eredivisie. The former Manchester City star’s brother Kiki Musampa is now representing Sangare – Musampa having recently admitted interest from the Merseysiders.

Both Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are said to be interested in Sangare – but if Klopp personally agrees with the Ivory Coast midfielder, he could be significantly cheaper than Caicedo.

With the arrival of Cody Gakpo from PSV in the previous January transfer window, the Reds already have a star who knows Sangare so well. The 25-year-old can play as the sole defensive midfielder or up front in a 4-3-3 formation and would provide much-needed protection to the back four.

Liverpool have reportedly offered over £100million for Caicedo, meaning signing Sangare would allow them to buy another player or two before the transfer window starts.
