Report says Liverpool will pay £42.9m release clause for wonderkid who will change Reds’ fortune in transfer market

Liverpool could put their transfer troubles behind with an impressive signing

Liverpool suffered several transfer setbacks last week after losing the contracts of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea.

However, their luck could soon change with Liverpool reportedly paying £42.9million for a new player.

If their midfield remains a concern, the Reds also want to improve their defense, especially in central defense. With Joel Matip and Joe Gomez out of favor and Ibrahima Konate at risk of injury, Jurgen Klopp is looking to add quality to the central defense of his four defenders.

According to Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias, Liverpool will sign Goncalo Inacio from Sporting Lisbon, although the 21-year-old Portuguese centre-back is set to negotiate a new contract with his current side.

Inacio currently has a £38.5m release clause, but once the new contract is signed, that will only rise to £42.9m. Liverpool are ready to match that price and strengthen their defence, the Portuguese outlet suggests.

However, the Reds will need to act quickly if they are to secure a deal, as Newcastle United, PSG and Manchester United are also all keen to take over his services.

A left-footed centre-back, Inacio would offer something Liverpool currently lack in their four options. While Virgil van Dijk largely operates in that squad, the signing of Inacio would give the Dutchman more chances to rest while Liverpool compete in the Europa League, or simply switch to his more natural squad.

Inacio came through Sporting’s academy and has since made the move to the first team. He too impressed, as Roberto Martinez called him up on his senior international debut in March.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk breaks his silence on the transfer situation at Anfield
There have been major changes at Anfield this summer, with the departures of captains Jordan Henderson and James Milner and that of Fabinho crucial to the club’s recent success.

Virgil van Dijk insists he trusts Liverpool to buy the right players as the transfer market threatens to go crazy.

Liverpool have accepted a UK record £111m offer for Moses Caicedo from Brighton amid fierce competition for Chelsea. Liverpool have made the move to Caicedo after three failed bids for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, the latest of which was for £46m.

The Reds are desperate for another number 6 after selling captain Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia and Van Dijk insists he has faith in them.
Jurgen Klopp.

“The point is if we have to sign a player for a certain position, yes or no, every top club at the moment would like to improve their team,” Van Dijk said. “So why shouldn’t we as players.

“We all want quality signings and that’s what we’ve done so far. So we trust the club. I definitely trust the club. They’ve done quite a bit of business over the last few years, so why not now? “If you follow social media, all the names will make you dizzy. I think it’s speculation and they try to guess names to add fuel to the fire and that’s how the internet works.

“You will see that we are linked with almost every midfielder in the world, so wait and see. We have professionals working there and that is the most important thing.

“As I said before: we trust the club, we play for the club and we trust the club to do the right thing. We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks.”

The Liverpool home shirt for the 2023/24 season pays tribute to Bill Shankly and the legendary Reds manager’s last season at Anfield. The Nike top features a bright red design with a bold white contrast on the color and cuffs.
