The New Orleans Saints’ Seventh Straight Loss Results in Dennis Allen’s Firing
The New Orleans Saints endured their seventh consecutive defeat, falling 22-23 to the Carolina Panthers, which led to the firing of head coach Dennis Allen. After Week 9, the Saints, sitting at the bottom of the NFC South with a 2-7 record, parted ways with Allen, who had been in his third season as head coach.
As reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Allen was dismissed after leading the team to a losing record of 18-25 and failing to reach the playoffs. Allen had previously served as the defensive coordinator under Sean Payton from 2015 to 2021. Special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi will take over as interim head coach.
The Saints began the season strong with a 2-0 record, including a dominant win over the Dallas Cowboys (44-19), but a seven-game losing streak culminated in their latest defeat to the Panthers.
Mike McCarthy Safe in Dallas Despite Struggles
In contrast, the Dallas Cowboys have yet to make a coaching change, even as they face a three-game losing streak. Despite growing fan dissatisfaction, including calls for a coaching change, team owner Jerry Jones is sticking with head coach Mike McCarthy. The Cowboys, who had high hopes at the start of the season, now find themselves with a 3-5 record, significantly lowering their playoff chances.
The team’s struggles have been compounded by issues with key players such as Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, as well as recent indiscipline from Ezekiel Elliott. Injuries to defensive stars like Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence have further hampered the Cowboys’ performance, leaving the team struggling to find solutions.

Trevon Diggs’ latest injury update is the last thing the Cowboys’ defense wanted
The already strained defense faces more challenges as Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has missed another practice day.
Player health has been a significant concern for the Dallas Cowboys this season, and there seems to be no change in their fortune. Diggs unexpectedly missed Wednesday’s camp, joining a long list of injured defenders. Initially, his injury was undisclosed, but Diggs later revealed that he was dealing with a calf issue, stating he was “working through it,” which includes missing practice once again.
According to Jon Machota, while the Cowboys welcomed back Brandon Aubrey from jury duty, Diggs will spend this session with the rehab group.
The Dallas defense has faced considerable struggles this season, but it’s difficult to critique them too harshly. Key players like Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, Sam Williams, and DaRon Bland have all been sidelined at various times, with replacements like Marshawn Kneeland and Caelen Carson also injured.
Adding Diggs to this list feels particularly concerning given the number of injuries already affecting the team. Diggs missed all but two games in 2023 due to a torn ACL, and they have yet to see him and Bland play together this season. While there is hope for Bland’s return, Diggs’ status remains a concern.
