South Carolina Makes Big Play, Offers Rising In-State Running Back

David “Tre” Segarra

In a significant development on Wednesday, in-state running back David “Tre” Segarra took to social media to announce that South Carolina football running backs coach Marquel Blackwell had extended a scholarship offer to him. This comes shortly after the reopening of the contact window, which allows college coaches to engage directly with recruits.

Segarra, a standout from Byrnes High School, is currently ranked as a 4-star prospect for the class of 2027 by On3. The sophomore is among the top young players in the nation, sitting at No. 70 overall and 6th among running backs.

The rising star is also fielding offers from several powerhouse programs, including Tennessee, Georgia, and Virginia Tech, and has expressed interest in both Clemson and Kentucky.

With multiple visits to South Carolina already under his belt, Segarra’s early scholarship offer from the Gamecocks signals a strong level of interest from the program. He now joins fellow in-state recruit Khristian Jackson (wide receiver, Ridge View High School) who also received a January offer.

Standing 5’10” and weighing 193 pounds, Segarra is known for his impressive strength for his size. He boasts a deadlift of over 500 pounds, a 40-yard dash time under 4.5 seconds, and a 500-pound squat. These physical feats translate seamlessly to his game performance, where his combination of strength, balance, and vision allows him to elude tacklers with ease.

On the field, Segarra has demonstrated an exceptional ability to make defenders miss. His speed further complements his skill set, as he regularly breaks away for long touchdowns.

In addition to his gridiron prowess, Segarra played a key role in leading the Byrnes Rebels to a region title in both football and soccer during the 2024 season. On the soccer field, he was the team’s top goal-scorer as a freshman and earned All-Area Freshman of the Year honors.

As his recruitment heats up, it’s clear that Segarra is one of the most sought-after prospects in the country.
