So far, Senior Bowl practices have reflected Jalen Milroe’s career at Alabama. The quarterback has delivered impressive deep passes, hitting his targets perfectly, earning praise from the crowd in Mobile.
However, he has also thrown some unfortunate interceptions that seemed easily avoidable. This is the current state of Milroe’s game.
“Jalen Milroe is a phenomenal athlete,” Todd McShay of The Ringer said on his podcast at the Senior Bowl Wednesday. “Jalen Milroe is gonna be awesome in the game on Saturday, I’m guessing, because of his ability to extend plays, and a lot of times in an all-star game, there’s gonna be miscommunication, guys haven’t played in this system a long time. Quarterbacks with mobility can kind of erase a lot of problems.”
Milroe is appearing in mock drafts with first-round projections, potentially as the third quarterback selected, behind Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward. He was the starting quarterback at Alabama for two seasons.
In his final season in Tuscaloosa, Milroe threw for 2,844 yards and 16 touchdowns, while also rushing for 726 yards and 20 more touchdowns.
“He’s got a lot of tools to work with,” McShay said. “He’s got a big arm. He’s got (a) unique blend of speed and power as a runner. And I know you can sense a ‘but’ coming and there is.”
McShay praised Milroe’s deep-passing ability, highlighting an especially impressive throw on Wednesday. However, he also mentioned the quarterback’s flaws, such as throwing 11 interceptions in 2024 and struggling with consistency.
He emphasized that Milroe must improve his accuracy for the NFL, referencing the development of Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson as examples.
“He’s not accurate short to intermediate,” McShay said of Milroe, pointing out that the quarterback had a rough week so far. “He’s missing and he’s missing by sizable amounts and it’s concerning. I just feel like it’s going fast for him. And a lot of quarterbacks come here and it’s happening fast, and I think he’s getting frustrated at times.”
Senior Bowl practices continued on Thursday, with the game scheduled for Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium.
