Campbell says Detroit was ‘sleeping giant’
DETROIT – Dan Campbell gave an inspiring speech on Thursday, describing Detroit as a “sleeping giant” when it comes to sports, even before the Lions found success.
Campbell was asked about the numerous events happening around Metro Detroit in support of the Lions as they approach the postseason.
Here are his full comments:
“It was one of the reasons I was drawn to play and coach here,” Campbell said. “This city is a sleeping giant for football.
“The Pistons and the Red Wings have had their moments of success. But the Lions have yet to experience that, and unlocking that potential is key. This is a sports town. When everyone feels involved, like ‘This is our team, they represent us and how we do things,’ we can get behind that.
“So when things like the (Amon-Ra) St. Brown moment happen, people are even dyeing their hair. It’s awesome, and we really feel the love and are grateful for it.”

Chef claims this restaurant’s new ‘Dan Campbell Burger’ is too big to finish in one sitting
ST. CHARLES, MI — Chris Palmer hopes that his restaurant’s latest creation will stir up some excitement among diners this weekend.
Cam’s Brick Oven, located at 133 N. Saginaw in St. Charles, is hosting a watch party for the Detroit Lions’ playoff game against the Washington Commanders at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18.
To add to the celebration, Palmer, the restaurant’s head chef, is unveiling the “Dan Campbell Burger,” a tribute to the Lions’ head coach.
This hefty burger features two 7-oz. patties, smoked brisket, mozzarella cheese sticks, jalapeno peppers, BBQ sauce, house-made Southwest ranch sauce, and a blend of American, cheddar, and pepper jack cheeses.
Weighing in at $20, the burger is a substantial challenge, with some patrons possibly needing to apply a firm squeeze to fit it in their mouths.
“To eat it, you have to have true grit,” Palmer remarked. “We needed something big like Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions personality.”
Palmer, who hasn’t yet finished one of the burgers himself, mentioned that he and a staff member spent last weekend creating the item.
“We knew we needed something big like Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions personality,” Palmer said about the concept.
He predicts that most customers will not be able to finish the burger in one sitting.
“I’m sure there are people who will try,” Palmer commented. “We’ll see.”
The Dan Campbell Burger will stay on the menu as long as the Lions continue their playoff run. If they win on Saturday, they will move on to the NFC Championship the following weekend, with a chance to reach the Super Bowl.
Should the Lions win the Super Bowl, Palmer stated, the Dan Campbell Burger will become a permanent fixture at Cam’s Brick Oven.
Palmer also shared plans to introduce a new Lions-themed menu item each time the team advances in the playoffs. If the Lions secure a Super Bowl win, all of these items will remain available on the menu permanently.
Although Palmer considers himself a Lions fan, he hasn’t had much time to watch the games recently. On Sundays, the restaurant fills up with customers, keeping him busy in the kitchen.
He expects another busy night on Saturday and advises potential patrons to arrive early to grab a seat. Groups can also reserve tables in advance by calling 989-865-5027.
