FSG would be only too happy to sell Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Thiago to Saudi Arabia.
That’s the view of Graeme Bailey who spoke on the Talking Transfers Podcast about these three players and Liverpool’s offers from Saudi Arabia.
As many will know, all three of the Reds’ veteran midfielders have been targeted for a move to the Gulf, and while the fan base and management may be divided over the idea of these sales, Bailey is under the impression FSG would be . happy to let them go.
Due to their high salaries and declining status as key players, Bailey thinks the Liverpool owners would be happy to sell.
FSG would sell
Bailey shared his verdict on these deals. “Is it too good an opportunity for the club not to accept offers and completely renew the midfield?”
“I totally agree. I think FSG are looking at this now, thinking we can make money off Fabinho, Henderson and Thiago.
And we can also write off their whole salary package, there’s none of that paying 50 %, which I think Fabinho and Thiago thought they should pay half their salary to get them off the payroll in a year.
“They can clean up the bridges here. Liverpool have already signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szobszlai. Interestingly, I spoke to someone else off-air and they pointed out that there were Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Stefan Bajcetic.
It’s not the same situation as Chelsea because I know they are young but they have experience. In total, they have probably played over 100 Premier League games in the starting XI.
“I think they’re going to want another midfielder anyway, but it’s interesting to see. I think if they get rid of those three and use the money, Romeo Lavia is a player that we know and we talked about.
I said that Lavia could become the most wanted player in the Premier League and things are going well for him. “I think if they could, FSG would book a minibus now and take them to the airport.”
Business sense
Ultimately, FSGs are businessmen and it would make good business sense to let them go.
Think about it: £40m for an ailing Fabinho after a terrible season is a great offer. £20m for Jordan Henderson, 33, is a fantastic price and although we don’t know how much money Thiago is on offer, sacking an injury-prone player who has a high salary is never a bad idea
All three players still have something to offer Liverpool, but it’s hard to imagine the Reds will ever have a better chance of scooping up some decent money for three players who are now well on their way to over the hill.
