New £45m offer ready as Liverpool push for top target to avoid other Premier League teams from hijacking the deal

Liverpool are ready to make a new bid for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia and the new proposal is almost ready to go as the Reds look to prevent Chelsea from making a move towards the Saints star.

The Merseyside club on Tuesday saw a £37 million bid for the 19-year-old rejected by Southampton as the Championship club shell out £50 million, The Athletic reports.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool’s new offer will be around £42.5 million guaranteed plus £2.5 million in add-ons – a total package of £45 million – which is still below Southampton’s asking price.

The transfer journalist reports that the Reds want to finalize the deal quickly, as Chelsea are still interested in Lavia and are keeping a close eye on the 19-year-old.

It is clear that Lavia is Liverpool’s main target to replace the departing Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. Chelsea are also in urgent need of a new central midfielder and are therefore keeping tabs on the Saints star.

The Merseyside club are in good shape to sign the talented youngster and it remains to be seen whether Southampton will accept an offer below the asking price of £50m.
