Terrion Arnold and the Lions Share Big Hopes for Each Other's Future

In a live update today, we’re talking about Detroit Lions’ cornerback Terrion Arnold, who had some words for the Lions’ fanbase after watching his former Alabama teammates, Eli Ricks, Tyler Steen, and Byron Young, secure Super Bowl rings following the Philadelphia Eagles’ dominant 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Arnold posted a message on social media, saying, “We are going to get ours, Detroit,” with a ring emoji alongside the post, clearly fired up and rallying the city’s support.

For much of the 2024 NFL season, it appeared the Lions were well on their way to a Super Bowl run. After reaching the NFC Championship Game in the 2023 season, Detroit had a stellar 15-2 record in 2024, finishing with the best record in the NFC. With the No. 1 seed secured and a first-round bye, hopes were high. However, a crushing 45-31 defeat at the hands of the Washington Commanders in their playoff opener left fans stunned and disappointed.

Terrion Arnold, selected by Detroit as the 24th pick in the NFL Draft on April 25, was a standout contributor despite missing one game. He was one of five rookies to play over 900 defensive snaps during the regular season. Arnold didn’t shy away from the big moments, playing all 75 snaps in Detroit’s playoff loss on January 18.

Detroit General Manager Brad Holmes spoke highly of Arnold’s development at his season-ending press conference: “We knew that it wasn’t going to be too big for him psychologically,” he remarked. “He’s a highly confident kid. There were some up-and-down moments early on, and he showed some aggressive play, which we love. He didn’t have any timid moments. Those 900-plus snaps are only going to make him more confident moving forward.”

Holmes added that Arnold showed noticeable improvement as the season progressed. “You could see the waters were a bit rough early, but by midseason and beyond, he started to settle down. We have very high expectations for him. He’s wired the right way. Long, athletic, instinctive, tough, and willing to tackle—those reps will just boost his confidence even more.”

Despite his promising trajectory, Arnold faced some struggles early on. In his first four games, he was flagged five times for defensive pass interference, twice for defensive holding, and once for a face mask penalty. However, he only committed three penalties over the next 14 games. With the injury to Carlton Davis, Arnold ended up playing the most snaps at cornerback for the Lions during the season.

It’s clear that Terrion Arnold is ready to keep pushing forward with his growth as a player, and as he said, the future for Detroit is bright.
