Aaron Glenn Rumors: Newest Developments on Jets and Saints Interest in Lions Coach

After two successful seasons as one of the top teams in the NFL, the Detroit Lions have garnered significant attention for their coaching staff, with defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn being one of the most sought-after names.

Glenn’s time in Detroit started off challenging, but after general manager Brad Holmes strengthened the defense with new talent in 2024, the team’s defense saw significant improvement.

However, injuries to several key defenders later in the season derailed their progress, culminating in a season-ending loss to the Washington Commanders. Despite this, Glenn’s reputation around the league remains strong. He has received substantial interest and is considered a candidate for the head coaching positions with the Las Vegas Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets, all of which he has participated in virtual interviews with.

Glenn also interviewed with the Chicago Bears, but they have reportedly hired Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson instead.

As CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones recently noted, the general expectation is that Glenn will likely be hired by either the Jets or the Saints, both of which he has personal ties to. Glenn previously played for both teams, served as a defensive backs coach for New Orleans, and worked as a scout for New York.

With the Lions’ season now over, Glenn is expected to ramp up his interview process, as he is now available for in-person interviews. For the latest developments on his candidacy, keep an eye on our tracker below.

  • If Glenn doesn’t reach a deal with the Jets, he will interview with the Saints on Wednesday (Jordan Schultz, FOX Sports).
  • Glenn will have his first in-person interview with the Jets on Tuesday, and it is seen as “significant” that the Jets are his first stop (Ian Rapoport, NFL Network).
  • Glenn is expected to be hired by the middle of this week (Adam Schefter, ESPN).

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff backs Michigan, picks against Ohio State

The Detroit Lions are gearing up for a significant game against the Washington Commanders on Saturday, but they’re also keeping an eye on the College Football Playoff national championship set for Monday. Ohio State and Notre Dame will battle for the title, and it’s clear many Lions players are invested in the outcome.

When asked to pick a winner while heading into the facility, several Lions players made their choices. However, starting quarterback Jared Goff made sure to make his stance known. He chose Notre Dame to win the championship and, looking directly into the camera, said, “Go Blue.”

Although Goff played quarterback at Cal in college, he’s been vocal about his support for the Michigan Football program. In fact, Goff has openly identified as part of the maize and blue faithful, particularly when discussing the rivalry between Michigan and Michigan State. When asked by former Michigan offensive lineman Taylor Lewan about the rivalry, Goff was quick to answer.

“You’re in a state that’s very divided from a college standpoint,” Lewan reminded Goff. “Who do you side with, Michigan or Michigan State?”

Without missing a beat, Goff responded, “Michigan, Michigan.” He continued, “And not just because you’re sitting here. It’s just because where I live and nearby here, it’s a lot of Michigan alum. And so, I really don’t know many Michigan State alum personally.”

This may sting a bit for the Spartan fans who also support the Lions, but if Goff leads Detroit to a Super Bowl win, it’s likely those Spartan fans will find a way to forgive him.
