After submitting two offers for Mount, both of which were rejected by the Blues, the Red Devils are set to continue their search for an attacking midfielder elsewhere unless a transfer fee is agreed soon, Romano has reported. .

United’s initial £40million bid for Mount last week was summarily rejected by Chelsea, with the Blues valuing the 24-year-old at £70million.

The Red Devils opted to make an improved offer of £45m in entry fees plus £5m in add-ons, but Chelsea again turned down the offer.

With United unwilling to pay the £70million price tag that Chelsea have imposed on the 24-year-old, the Blues now appear willing to lower their asking price to complete the deal. Romano expects Chelsea to drop the price tag to £60-£65m including add-ons.

Even if the Blues cut their asking price, as Romano expects, their valuation for Mount would still be £10m higher than United are willing to pay.

The inability to agree on a transfer fee appears to be the only apparent obstacle in United’s attempts to sign Mount.

Mount has not only reached personal terms with United but has also indicated his reluctance to sign a new deal with Chelsea, with representatives of the England international reportedly contacting the Blues to confirm he is not at the club he will be staying after the Reds’ second offer. he had been rejected.

If no deal is reached for Mount, United have already listed several alternatives. The club are reportedly eyeing Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze as a replacement.

With Transfermarkt listing Eze’s value at €30m, he is proving to be a more affordable option for United.

However, Mount remains the first choice for United manager Erik ten Hag given his energy, pressure ability and technical quality, which would make him well suited to a high pressure system.

United need to sign Mount as soon as possible to integrate the midfielder into the squad before the start of the new season. Otherwise, it may be wiser to move forward with what could become a lengthy process.
