Cowboys’ daring forecast could result in a franchise-changing trade deadline

Dalvin Cook of the Dallas Cowboys elevated to the active roster

The Dallas Cowboys are facing a crucial game this Sunday as they travel to play the Atlanta Falcons. A victory would elevate the Cowboys to a 4-4 record, boosting morale ahead of the trade deadline. However, if they lose, they would drop to 3-5, potentially triggering significant changes within the organization.

With the trade deadline approaching on November 5, the Cowboys are considered one of the most interesting teams to monitor. A defeat against the Falcons could prompt them to make several trades. According to Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox, the team may look to offload players like Trey Lance and Eric Kendricks.

Knox stated, “The prediction here is that the Cowboys realize that they are approaching a rebuild—head coach Mike McCarthy still hasn’t received an extension beyond this season—and decide to stockpile draft capital at the deadline.” He also noted that while Dallas has $25.7 million in projected cap space for 2025, a significant portion may be needed for Micah Parsons’ extension, making it essential to refresh the roster with rookie contracts.

He suggested, “Expect Dallas to shop impending 2025 free agents like Kendricks, Lance, edge-rusher DeMarcus Lawrence, guard Zack Martin, and cornerback Jourdan Lewis in the coming days. Adding a player or two isn’t going to put Dallas in the 2024 Super Bowl conversation.”

A win on Sunday would help the Cowboys avoid these drastic measures, but a loss could set off a chain reaction of changes.

The Dallas Cowboys may have a new addition in the backfield for their Sunday night matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Running back Dalvin Cook was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster on Saturday. He was signed just before the season began but has not yet been on the active roster.

The former Pro Bowl running back for the Vikings had a challenging season last year, seeing limited action with the New York Jets and playing in one playoff game for the Baltimore Ravens. Still, the Cowboys are optimistic that he can regain some of his previous performance.

Currently, the Cowboys are averaging an NFL-low 77.2 rushing yards per game.

Additionally, the Cowboys placed TE John Stephens on injured reserve after he tore his ACL in practice this week and signed cornerback Amani Oruwariye to the 53-man roster.
