The Dallas Cowboys are taking any positive news they can get regarding sophomore linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.
And today, there’s a bit of good news to share.
Overshown, who was selected 90th overall in the third round of the 2023 draft out of Texas, has already faced challenges early in his career. He missed his entire rookie season due to an ACL injury sustained during preseason. However, he made a strong comeback in 2024, quickly establishing himself as a key defensive player. With 90 tackles, he ranked second on the team and had memorable moments, such as his first career interception against the New York Giants on Thanksgiving—a self-tipped ball that he returned for a Cowboys defensive touchdown.
Unfortunately, his promising season took a serious blow against Cincinnati.
The injury is a devastating knee setback, but surgery has already been performed. In a report shared by our colleague Jordan Schultz, there’s some encouraging news.
Schultz writes, “Sources: Cowboys standout LB DeMarvion Overshown underwent successful knee surgery with Dr. ElAttrache, and there’s hope he could return by mid-to-late next season — a far more optimistic timeline than initially expected after the diagnosis.”
Despite this setback, Overshown remains steadfast in his faith. After the game, he expressed his resolve on social media.
“Wouldn’t want this for anyone else! One of God’s Toughest Soldiers. Keep me in your prayers…” Overshown wrote.

Cowboys connected to ex-NFL Coach of the Year as potential replacement for Mike McCarthy
Over the past four weeks, the Dallas Cowboys have gone 3-1, which has led to Jerry Jones offering head coach Mike McCarthy a vote of confidence. Cowboys players have also expressed their support for McCarthy, praising the locker room culture after the team’s most recent victory. Despite this, speculation continues about who could take over as head coach if the team decides to move on from McCarthy.
Dan Graziano of ESPN recently reported that Mike Vrabel, the 2021 NFL Coach of the Year, could be a candidate for the Cowboys’ head coaching job if McCarthy is let go. Vrabel, who was dismissed by the Tennessee Titans two years after winning the award, is currently serving as a consultant for the Cleveland Browns. Graziano wrote, “Mike Vrabel’s name is buzzy ahead of the coaching carousel.” He added that some believe Vrabel could be a candidate for Dallas, even though Jerry Jones continues to praise McCarthy without extending his contract, which is set to expire at the end of the season.
Vrabel has also been linked to potential roles with the Las Vegas Raiders and his former school, the Ohio State Buckeyes.
If the Cowboys decide to move on from McCarthy, which many fans would support, Vrabel is a proven head coach who could inject new energy into the team. In that case, the Cowboys might also look for a new offensive coordinator and make changes to the offense in the offseason.
While it’s unclear what Jerry Jones will decide, the potential pursuit of Vrabel is something to watch closely.
