The Dallas Cowboys had a busy day as the 2024 NFL trade deadline approached. On one hand, they decided to acquire wide receiver Jonathan Mingo in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick. On the other, they made the decision to release both cornerback Andrew Booth and defensive tackle Jordan Phillips.
Both players were officially let go on Tuesday afternoon, marking the end of their brief tenures in Dallas.
Booth was brought in through a trade with the Minnesota Vikings during training camp on August 9, while Phillips joined the Cowboys just five days later on August 14 via a trade with the New York Giants.
Booth’s arrival was part of a deal that sent Nahshon Wright to Minnesota.
Phillips’ trade, however, had a stipulation. The Cowboys had agreed to send a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Giants in exchange for Phillips and a 2025 seventh-round pick, provided that Phillips played in at least two games during the 2024 season. Despite spending several weeks on injured reserve with a wrist injury, which caused him to miss five games, he played in both Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns and Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints.
Though his 21-day practice window was activated, Phillips never made it back to the active roster, meaning his release won’t free up a spot on the 53-man roster in Dallas, unlike Booth’s release, which will.
As a result, the trade terms with the Giants remain intact, and the picks will be swapped as initially agreed.
During their time in Dallas, the pair produced no sacks, no pass breakups, no interceptions, no forced fumbles, no fumble recoveries, and only seven combined tackles.

Trevon Diggs’ latest injury update is the last thing the Cowboys’ defense wanted
The already strained defense faces more challenges as Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has missed another practice day.
Player health has been a significant concern for the Dallas Cowboys this season, and there seems to be no change in their fortune. Diggs unexpectedly missed Wednesday’s camp, joining a long list of injured defenders. Initially, his injury was undisclosed, but Diggs later revealed that he was dealing with a calf issue, stating he was “working through it,” which includes missing practice once again.
According to Jon Machota, while the Cowboys welcomed back Brandon Aubrey from jury duty, Diggs will spend this session with the rehab group.
The Dallas defense has faced considerable struggles this season, but it’s difficult to critique them too harshly. Key players like Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, Sam Williams, and DaRon Bland have all been sidelined at various times, with replacements like Marshawn Kneeland and Caelen Carson also injured.
Adding Diggs to this list feels particularly concerning given the number of injuries already affecting the team. Diggs missed all but two games in 2023 due to a torn ACL, and they have yet to see him and Bland play together this season. While there is hope for Bland’s return, Diggs’ status remains a concern.
