Broaddus: Cowboys to Shut Down DeMarcus Lawrence for the Rest of 2024 Season – 105.3 The Fan

The Cowboys will not have DeMarcus Lawrence back this season, and now the question is whether he’ll return at all.

Bryan Broaddus reported on Wednesday during GBag Nation on 105.3 The Fan that the Dallas Cowboys are shutting down defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence for the remainder of the 2024 season.

“They tried their best to get him back. There was a couple times where I was passing by the field, watching him, and I felt like [he was working hard with Cowboys trainer Britt Brown]… But they just couldn’t get that (foot) where it needed to be, and it wasn’t worth the risk for them going forward,” said Broaddus.

Lawrence, who has been out since injuring his foot in Week 4 against the New York Giants, was placed on IR shortly after the injury.

Having spent his entire 11-year career with the Cowboys, Lawrence will become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. He has expressed his intention to continue playing next season, but the question remains: Will that be with the Cowboys?

“We may have seen Tank Lawrence for the last time in a Cowboys uniform,” Broaddus added.

Mailbag: Where Has Osa Improved This Year? – Mickey Spagnola, Tommy Yarrish, DallasCowboys.com

Osa Odighizuwa is emerging as one of the brightest stars on the Cowboys’ defense.

In the latest Mailbag segment, DallasCowboys.com staff answered a question about Osa Odighizuwa’s development and whether he’s playing himself out of the Cowboys’ financial reach in his contract year.

Mickey Spagnola noted that while the Cowboys’ cap will likely remain tight, Odighizuwa’s play has made him a priority for re-signing, as the team doesn’t have another defensive tackle who plays the same role. Spagnola mentioned that Odighizuwa is playing nearly 80 percent of snaps this season, with a significant uptick in recent games.

Tommy Yarrish highlighted Odighizuwa’s pass-rushing improvements, noting that he had already recorded 44 pressures and four sacks as of Week 15, with more time left in the season. Yarrish also pointed out that Odighizuwa’s effectiveness against the run, including 40 tackles and 8 run stuffs, makes him a valuable player to retain.

“If you’ve got one of the best in the league at their position, find a way to keep them around,” Yarrish concluded.

Dallas Cowboys Stock Watch: Week 15 Risers & Fallers – Koby Skillern, Sports Illustrated

As the season nears its end, the Dallas Cowboys have seen several players’ stock rise.

In their Week 15 victory over the Carolina Panthers, the Cowboys showed a dominating performance on both sides of the ball, winning 30-14. Among the standout players:

  • Rico Dowdle (RB): Dowdle delivered a career-high performance with 149 yards on 25 carries, averaging six yards per carry. His efforts helped the Cowboys achieve their highest team rushing yards of the season, surpassing their previous best by 55 yards.
  • Osa Odighizuwa (DT): Continuing his strong season, Odighizuwa added another sack, 4 total tackles, and 4 quarterback hits. His value as one of the league’s top interior pass rushers has only grown.
  • CeeDee Lamb (WR): Lamb had his second 100-yard receiving game of the season, finishing with 9 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown. With this performance, Lamb became just the second Cowboys player, alongside Michael Irvin, to record four consecutive seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards.

Cowboys Learn ‘Good News’ After DeMarvion Overshown’s Surgery – Mike Fisher, AthlonSports.com

The Dallas Cowboys received some positive news following the surgery of linebacker DeMarvion Overshown.

Overshown, who had missed his entire rookie season due to an ACL injury, had started to make a significant impact in 2024. Unfortunately, a devastating knee injury ended his season. After surgery, there was some optimism.

Sources reported that his surgery was successful, and there is hope that Overshown could return by mid-to-late next season—a far more optimistic timeline than initially expected.

Micah Parsons Noise Likely to Dominate Cowboys Offseason Coverage – Reid Hanson, USA Today

The Cowboys are gearing up for another offseason full of speculation, this time centered on star pass rusher Micah Parsons.

With Parsons entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2025, the media has begun circulating stories about a potential trade. Although Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has repeatedly dismissed the idea of trading Parsons, the media continues to drive the narrative, with trade rumors and contract speculation likely to dominate coverage for months.

“Because they just can’t get enough of the Cowboys, the national media is almost guaranteed to latch onto the Parsons trade conversation and not let go until it’s finally put to bed with a new contract,” Hanson remarked.

Given the Cowboys’ historical approach to contract negotiations, it seems a resolution won’t come until the last possible moment, which could lead to an extended period of media drama.
