“Exceptional” player desperate to return to England just a year after leaving Liverpool

Former Liverpool striker Divock Origi is keen to return to English football after an unhappy spell in Italy.

Origi left Liverpool a hero around this time last year. Hailed as ‘exceptional’ by Jurgen Klopp during his eight highly successful years at Anfield, the Belgian has set off on a new adventure at Milan.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go to plan for Divock. Transfer market is sometimes even booed by his own fans and reports that the coach Stefano Pioli has more or less given up on him. Despite being offered on the market, the 28-year-old has reportedly attracted little interest. Origi reportedly received offers from Saudi Arabia but turned them down, and ‘hesitant contacts’ with Turkish clubs also fell through.

Instead, Origi is claimed to be keen to return to England and the Premier League. To that end, Calciomercato report that Sheffield United have expressed interest. However, since there would be no offers, a change does not seem imminent. Origi eyes Premier League move
Poor Divock. A year ago, after leaving Liverpool, Milan seemed like a very good place to land for him.

Divock Origi
They were Serie A champions then and had a young and exciting project ready to take it to the next level.

But – through no fault of Origi – Milan failed in the 2022/23 season. As the team struggled to gain momentum, the former Liverpool player struggled in and out of the squad. He certainly could have hit the net more times than the two he managed. But instead, it seems unfair to blame the team’s mistakes on the Belgium international.

However, Pioli seems to have lost patience with Origi.

With a high salary at Milan, it seems to have been difficult to get him off their books.

In this scenario, the deep pockets of a Premier League side are probably the best bet for the Rossoneri anyway. If Sheffield United can bid together they can certainly do much worse. Come home, div.
