Signing a midfielder was a priority at the start of the window and despite two newcomers it could still be a priority for Liverpool at Anfield.
Liverpool could now consider further midfield reinforcements at Anfield this summer and journalist Ben Jacobs has explained the priority signing from GIVEMESPORT.
Even though Jurgen Klopp has brought several newcomers to the middle of the park, the German coach will be asking for more.
Liverpool Transfer News – Latest
Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were Liverpool’s first two signings of the summer transfer window, significantly strengthening their midfield.
Departures could now affect their summer spending as Fabinho and Jordan Henderson are linked with a move from Anfield. The Liverpool duo are both closing in on a move to Saudi Arabia which means Klopp could fail in midfield.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner all left the club this summer after their contracts expired, so midfield signings were already a priority before Fabinho and Henderson departed.
Before even thinking about any expenses, the Reds struggled last season, failing to qualify for the Champions League.
Klopp is said to be desperate to improve his squad ahead of the new season, which starts in August.
Mac Allister and Szoboszlai are certainly impressive signings for Liverpool, but it would come as no surprise if the North West club continued to recruit from their central areas.
What did Jacobs say about Liverpool?
Jacobs has hinted that Liverpool are currently focusing on youngster Romeo Lavia from Southampton.
The reporter also mentions Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucour as a player the Reds could switch to but he will cost a significant amount of money to secure his signature.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “I think Liverpool are more focused on Romeo Lavia at the moment and it will be interesting to see if there is any movement on that front.”
“If Liverpool want Lavia, Southampton want £50m.” Liverpool would try to get him for less money, £40m or less. However, if Liverpool joined Doucoure and the interest was concrete and genuine, they too would have to pay a similar fee, perhaps even as high as Lavia’s. So it’s problematic in some ways.”
Who else do Liverpool want to target this summer?
Although a midfielder or two could be a priority over the coming weeks, Klopp could be looking to strengthen in other areas before the window closes.
BILD reporter Christian Falk recently told GIVEMESPORT that Liverpool are negotiating with the management of Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard and that Chelsea and Barcelona are also interested in the Frenchman. Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy has also revealed that Ryan Gravenberch is a Reds target this summer.
Journalist Dean Jones has hinted to GIVEMESPORT that Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill is also attracting interest from the Merseyside club this summer, but convincing the west London club to let him go is expected to be extremely difficult.
It looks like Liverpool’s transfer business is far from over, with just a few weeks left until the start of the season.
