Liverpool’s young stars Stefan Bajcetic and Harvey Elliott have been nominated for the Golden Boy award for 2023.
It is a squad of 100 players, made up of some of the best young players in European football. Players under the age of 21 are eligible for this award.
The winner will be determined by the end of the calendar year by a jury of 50 international journalists. Elliott and Bajcetic will take note of how well they have done for Liverpool in such a difficult season
If we look at the numbers, he played the first 46 games and scored five goals and provided two assists. He played most of his matches as a right wing central midfielder. Jurgen Klopp used him as a winger when Mohamed Salah needed rest.
Bajcetic, on the other hand, came into the picture later in the season but had a strong second half before picking up a serious injury in March. Even in that handful of appearances, the young Spaniard showed his class in midfield and slowly became Klopp’s go-to man.
These two young players should have bright futures, both at Liverpool and elsewhere. Elliott is a versatile player who can play in midfield (although still learning that position) and is comfortable as an attacking midfielder or on the right wing.
Bajcetic can play as the sole defensive midfielder and is also technically adept at operating as one of the number eights. His passing and reading of the game are on par with some of the best midfielders in the division.
We congratulate the duo on their Golden Boy Award nomination. The hope is that one of them will grab that prize by the end of the year, though that seems a bit unrealistic given the competition they face, which includes Jamal Musiala, Jude Bellingham and Gavi.
