Juventus striker Federico Chiesa must be prosecuted if Liverpool sell Mohamed Salah
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool will only seek to acquire the services of Juventus star Federico Chiesa if they part ways with Mohamed Salah.
Should the Egyptian move to Saudi Arabia, it would be the only option for the Italy international. Until then, however, it remains to be seen what will happen to the striker’s future.
As well as the Reds, Newcastle United also have the 25-year-old on their radar. But even they would have to sell someone from their front lines before seeking the ex-Fiorentina star’s signature.
Premier League rivals Aston Villa have also expressed interest in Chiesa. The Villans turned to his agent Fali Ramadani but the Italian was unhappy with a move to the Birmingham-based club.
Even if Liverpool decided to sign the striker, they would have to pay a significant sum to bring him in. Juventus are unwilling to sell the 25-year-old for less than £42million.
Considering Chiesa’s development over the past few months, the price seems a bit high. The Italian was sidelined for a long time before returning to action midway through last season. However, the 25-year-old didn’t look like herself.
At the moment, despite the departures of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in the last two years, Jurgen Klopp still has Salah from the iconic attacking trio. The Egyptian remained our talisman in the previous campaign.
While the 31-year-old was nowhere near his best, the forward’s numbers in the 2022-23 season were still impressive. Klopp can also call Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo up front.
Liverpool would therefore do well not to take concrete steps for Chiesa for the moment. However, it remains to be seen whether the Anfield side will choose to take the Italian further afield.
