Man Utd star Anthony Martial’s agents react to Fenerbahce transfer links

Reports from Turkey suggest Man United forward Anthony Martial has been linked with a move to Fenerbahce

Anthony Martial’s representatives have dismissed claims that Manchester United offered the striker to Turkish club Fenerbahce.

United, who are due to start their Premier League season at home against Wolves on Monday night, have been in talks with Fenerbahce for a few days over a deal to sell midfielder Fred. The Reds have accepted a £12.93m offer for the Brazilian and he will fly to Istanbul today (Saturday) for a medical.

It was always likely Fred would leave Old Trafford this summer, especially after the club bolstered their midfield options with the signing of Mason Mount last month. Fellow midfielder Scott McTominay could also leave before the September 1 deadline. As for Martial, however, on Friday morning a Turkish journalist said that United would have “offered” the 27-year-old to Fenerbahce. He also said that Martial “expected” to be offered a three-year contract.

However, Martial’s representatives — USFA — have responded to those suggestions, describing the reports as “false.” They took to their Instagram page to respond and posted a screenshot of the reporter’s tweet and the aforementioned caption.

Martial, who moved from AS Monaco to United in 2015, did not play once during the pre-season due to injury. He missed most of last season through injury and it remains to be seen if he will make the squad for Monday night’s season opener.

The Frenchman played just 29 of United’s 62 games in all competitions last season, scoring nine goals and providing three assists.

It is clear United’s position on Greenwood will have no impact on the club’s summer transfer activities. United are in talks over a deal for Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund, who was an unused substitute in Atalanta’s pre-season win against Bournemouth.

Earlier in the summer, reports suggested Greenwood could move to Atalanta as part of a deal for Hojlund. However, Atalanta are believed to be only making a cash offer for their player, who scored nine Serie A goals last season.

A product of Manchester United’s academy, Greenwood made his debut for the club as a teenager during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time as manager. He scored his first senior goal for the club in September 2019, just before his 18th birthday.

The Yorkshire-born player has scored 35 goals in 129 games for the Red Devils, 22 of them in the Premier League. He also has one cap for the England national team when he came on as a substitute against Iceland in 2020.

In Greenwood’s final season with United’s first-team, he scored six goals in 24 games, five of which came in the Premier League. His last appearance was in a 1-0 win over West Ham in January 2022.
