As Liverpool continue their longstanding relationship with RB Leipzig through the two-way deal, the two clubs have another common bond.
Dominik Szoboszlai is set to become the Reds’ second signing this summer after the midfielder’s release clause came into effect just before his contract expires on June 30.
It comes after Fabio Carvalho agreed to join the Bundesliga club on loan for the 2023/24 season after accumulating just eight Premier League minutes from the start of this season.
The Reds have also signed Naby Keita and Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig in recent years, with the two clubs having developed a strong working relationship in the transfer market.
That bond could be even stronger now that a former Jurgen Klopp player took charge of the German club last summer. Marco Rose replaced Domenico Tedesco as RB Leipzig manager in September 2022, a man who played under the Liverpool manager during his time at Mainz
Rose once credited Klopp with having had a significant impact on his coaching career, detailing how the German ‘left his mark’ on him during his playing days, while in his previous role as coach of the Borussia Mönchengladbach, he got his hands on the media. quoted on the official Bundesliga website.
Rose followed in Klopp’s footsteps and started his coaching career at Mainz, where he worked briefly as an assistant to Thomas Tuchel and later Martin Schmidt.
The two managers have yet to meet in the dugout, but the two deals for Szoboszlai and Carvalho are further proof of the ongoing relationship between Liverpool and RB Leipzig.
Fans will hope both moves will have long-term benefits for the Reds as Carvalho is keen to gain valuable Bundesliga experience and Szoboszlai becomes Liverpool’s second signing this summer.
There’s still work for Liverpool to do in the summer transfer window, but most of the deals so far have been with their German friends.
