As Chelsea is ready to reduce their roster this summer, three players from their first team have been frozen out.
Trevoh Chalobah, a defender for Chelsea, is supposedly not allowed to use the team’s first-team training facilities as Todd Boehly makes drastic cuts to the roster.
Enzo Maresca did not include the 25-year-old in the squad for the preseason trip, but it is believed that the club’s sports directors, not the Italian manager, made the decision to sell the centre back.
With interest from Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, Chalobah has recognised that his future is not at Stamford Bridge and is expected to finalise his departure from the team in the upcoming weeks.
But after being cut out by the club, he was cruelly informed that he could not even train with his teammates at Cobham’s senior squad, according to The Telegraph.
Chalobah has not been allowed inside the first team facility at the Cobham training site of the club. Out-of-favor teammates Armando Broja and Romelu Lukaku have joined him in training with the Under-21s; they are expected to follow Chalobah out the door.
at the exception of loan stints at Lorient, Huddersfield, and Ipswich, Chalobah has played his whole career with the west London club. Since Chelsea returned from their preseason tour of the USA, Chalobah has not been seen in the first team dressing room or the canteen.
According to the article, Chelsea thinks it’s preferable for players who won’t be given a chance to play for the first team under Maresca to concentrate on finding a new team and not divert attention from those getting ready for the upcoming campaign.
However, Chalobah signed a long-term contract in November 2022, thus he is bound to stay with the team until 2028 and might require some persuasion to leave. Having already turned down a transfer to Nottingham Forest the previous season, he has now voiced his disappointment at being kicked out of the team against his will.
Despite their excellent service since making their first-team debuts, Chalobah and fellow Cobham graduate Conor Gallagher have received criticism from Chelsea supporters. During their preseason tour in the United States, a fan held up a banner that said, “Trev deserved better,” and the photo went viral on social media.
After declining three offers of short-term contracts, which the team believed to be attempts to boost Gallagher’s worth on the transfer market rather than to keep him at the club, the player is expected to finalise a £37 million move to Atletico Madrid.
After spending £170 million on summer acquisitions, Chelsea owner Daniel Boehly is looking to bring in some cash to balance the books. Broja and Lukaku are set to complete permanent moves out of the club.
The team is about to sign Pedro Neto from Wolves for £54 million and is wrapping up a £35 million deal for Samu Omorodion of Atletico. Selling Chalobah, Broja, and Lukaku is estimated to bring in a total of about £85 million.
