Diogo Jota is keen to make the most of pre-season and showcase his best scoring form for Liverpool in 2023-24.
The striker was sidelined through injury early last summer and a subsequent problem on his return to the Reds forced him into eight appearances in February.
However, Jota returned to fitness and regular playing time during the closing months of the final season, scoring seven goals in his last nine matches.
And the Portuguese international is now determined to build on that prolific run by aiming to better his previous season as top scorer with Liverpool, the 21 he made in 2021-2022.
“I hope I can score that number or more,” Jota told FourFourTwo. “Last season was very successful – almost the most successful ever in English football – and it was fantastic for me too.
“I was so happy that Liverpool offered me a new contract and that I could commit to the club for a long time.
“I know they trust me and this is important: knowing you’re in a stable place, with people who give you the confidence to take the field and put on great performances.
“This summer I want to have a good pre-season and hopefully a great season.”

Liverpool have targeted Khephren Thuram this summer and Ibrahima Konate hasn’t shied away from the news
Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate is hoping OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram makes a move to Anfield this summer.
The France U21 midfielder is currently preparing for Les Bleus’ campaign at this summer’s European Championships as they seek to be crowned continent champions in Georgia and Romania.
Thuram has been increasingly associated with a move to Merseyside in recent weeks, as he has now been designated as a target for Jürgen Klopp’s side.
A future transfer would not go through until July 1, when the international window opens, but the Reds are looking to strengthen their engine room with the midfielder in question.
Alexis Mac Allister has already agreed with Liverpool as the first jigsaw in the midfield overhaul puzzle. After his “little brother” comments, the 24-year-old added fuel to the speculated fire surrounding his compatriot.
In a quick ‘yes or no’ with broadcaster Telefoot, Konate was asked alongside Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano whether Thuram will play alongside him at Anfield this season.
“Yes, I hope so,” he replied.
He is currently part of Didier Deschamps’ senior squad as their European Championship qualification continues.
They beat Gibraltar on Friday and hosted Greece in the French capital on Monday.
Despite being absent from Klopp’s squad, Konate has spoken out about Merseyside’s move plans this summer and in particular the prospect of gaining a French team-mate at club level.
Speaking to RMC Sport, he said: “I would be very happy if he [Thuram] comes to Liverpool and I take him under my wing and I would do everything I can to help him progress and become the player he wants to be.”
“Khephren is like my little brother, he’s someone I’ve watched grow up. I was with his older brother in the training center, but I’ve watched him grow up.
I’ve seen him perform and progress on a level… It’s been incredible.” Also during his first selection for the France team. I saw him train and I was really surprised by his size and his technical ease.
“When I was at Leipzig and signed for Liverpool, a lot of people said it was too soon, it wasn’t the right choice. I ended up proving all those people wrong. , then don’t listen to people.
Si Khephren. ” If he has the opportunity to come to a club like Liverpool, I think he will be surprised at the enthusiasm that will grow behind him.
“It’s up to him to work on. He’s still very young, but he has incredible room for improvement, so I’m confident.”
