Earlier in the preseason, the Dallas Cowboys made a trade to strengthen their secondary, acquiring former second-round pick Andrew Booth from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for Nahshon Wright.
Cowboys fans were optimistic about the move, believing they had secured a steal in Booth, who had played only 11 percent of defensive snaps over the previous two seasons. It was a low-risk, high-reward gamble by Dallas to see if they could help Booth regain his form.
However, as the season progressed, Booth struggled to get on the field and ultimately became the odd man out on the 53-man roster. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Cowboys released Booth on Tuesday to make room for second-year wide receiver Jonathan Mingo.

Mingo, acquired from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick, also brought a 2025 seventh-round pick to Dallas.
Booth, during his brief time with the Cowboys, totaled six combined tackles in three games. The 24-year-old cornerback played 20 percent of defensive snaps and 33 percent of special teams snaps.
Dallas is hoping the trade for Mingo proves to be more successful than the Booth acquisition, especially considering they gave up a fourth-round pick. To make matters worse, Wright, who was part of the trade to acquire Booth, remains with the Vikings after being signed to their practice squad at the end of the preseason.
Looking back, the Cowboys may have been better off keeping Wright, who appeared in 32 games over three seasons. Last year with Dallas, the 6-foot-4 defensive back played primarily on special teams, participating in 75 percent of snaps and appearing in 12 games.

Trevon Diggs addresses intense ‘deez nuts’ exchange following recent Dallas Cowboys defeat
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs addressed his intense “deez nuts” exchange with a reporter following the team’s 30-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. This defeat leaves the Cowboys with a 3-4 record, putting them behind the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders in the NFC East. The loss was particularly frustrating as they allowed three touchdowns in the third quarter.
After the game, a reporter criticized Diggs for his effort during a George Kittle interception that put the 49ers close to the goal line. Diggs retorted by questioning the reporter’s understanding of the play, stating, “You don’t know football,” and then walked away, adding, “We can talk about deez nuts,” referencing a well-known meme.
On “The Edge with Micah Parsons,” Diggs reflected on the “unnecessary” altercation, expressing that he felt the reporter was using his name for attention. He said, “I felt he was trying to use my name for clicks,” and noted how he approached the reporter after recognizing him.
Diggs shared that he was emotional due to the recent loss, saying, “I’m a competitor. I wanted to win,” which contributed to his reaction. Nonetheless, he maintained that the reporter’s comments were unjustified. “It doesn’t make it right for anybody to be saying anything, or trying to throw dirt on your name, make it seem like you’re doing a bad job.”
He emphasized, “I felt like I played my hardest game yesterday… for him to throw dirt on my name didn’t sit right with me because [he’s] completely wrong.”
He concluded, “If I was wrong, gave up a play, I can’t say nothing. I have to take that on the chin. You saying anything, I’m not going to take that. I’m not going to allow you to try to make me seem I’m the problem. That’s not cool.”
The Cowboys are set to play against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
