Liverpool continue to be linked with Romeo Lavia and a former Premier League star has backed the Reds to agree his signing this summer.
The Merseysiders have already signed a creative central midfielder and an attacking midfielder and need to attract a sin to tighten things up in the center of the park.
Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Lavia would be the perfect signing for Liverpool to head into the new season.
The former Premier League goalscorer told Football Insider:
“Lavia is the missing piece of the puzzle. Liverpool need a defensive midfielder who can recover the ball, has legs and also knows how to play and deflect attacks.”
“The Reds really need it because Fabinho’s legs are gone. They can start a new season and say their three central midfielders are new signings, and that’s what everyone says they need.”
“So when they took Lavia over the edge, a whole revamp was done. Their attack speaks for itself, next to their defense which is very strong.
The young Belgian midfielder has a long-term contract with Southampton until 2027 and is valued at around £45m.
Agbonlahor is correct that Fabinho had the day of him, but the Brazilian has been a rejuvenated figure in the second half of the season and has the quality and experience to be a key player next season.
Should the Brazil international eventually leave, Liverpool should ideally sign a proven defensive midfielder to replace him.
