Liverpool’s £25.5m bid for Andre ‘rejected’ as Reds finally drop transfer for good

Liverpool's £25.5m bid for Andre 'rejected' as Reds finally drop transfer for good

Liverpool are desperate to strengthen their standings in midfield this summer.

Liverpool’s rebuilding midfield has taken yet another blow after they reportedly rejected a £25.5million offer for Andre from Fluminense. Jurgen Klopp is desperate for more quality in the department before the transfer window closes and the Reds have immediately cooled their interest and have consequently turned to alternatives.

Last season, Liverpool’s lack of fresh legs and quality in midfield proved costly and he was highlighted as part of the squad in need of investment. Several players were released, replaced by Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. However, following the sale of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to the Saudi Pro League, the Reds are still on the lookout for additional reinforcements. After missing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia at Chelsea, Wataru Endo was signed from Stuttgart to gain midfield experience.

However, Liverpool have not ended their spending spree, with promising young South American Andre identified as a prime target. According to ESPN, a £25.5million offer from the Reds for the Brazilian was recently turned down despite the player’s desire to join the Premier League.

After rejecting the offer, Fluminense also told Anfield executives that they were also unwilling to accept higher offers as they did not want to sell the midfielder until the end of the current season.

According to ESPN, this prompted Liverpool to withdraw permanently from the talks.

The Brazilian international was seen by the Reds as a player the team could improve on in both the short and long term. But they are unwilling to chase a purchase that seems implausible as the transfer window begins to draw to a close.

With the Brasileiro Serie A winding down in December, Fluminense may be more willing to consider offers for Andre in the January transfer window as he has the chance to secure a replacement.

But Liverpool are expected to turn their attention to an alternative target soon and so apparently won’t be in the market for the 22-year-old at the time. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will ultimately wait and return with a new offer for Andre in January. Other clubs could also try to pounce on the player.

Fulham have already seen a bid for the midfielder believed to be worth around £17m rejected this summer and may feel the Brazilian is the ideal player to work with and develop further, before benefiting from his services later on.
