Why Caoimhin Kelleher isn’t in Liverpool’s squad against Greuther Furth

Caoimhin Kelleher has been left out of the Liverpool squad to face Greuther Furth, while Jurgen Klopp looks to rotate his goalkeepers during the pre-season schedule.

Given widespread speculation about the Irishman’s future, his absence from Monday’s squad has led to suggestions that a departure may be imminent.

However, This Is Anfield understands that Klopp is making sure all of his goalkeepers have playing time in preparation for the new season.

Kelleher and Vitezslav Jaros each took half as the Reds opened pre-season with a 4-2 win over Karlsruher last season.

Therefore, Alisson and a returning Adrian will do the same in this afternoon’s closed-door meeting with Greuther Furth. Kelleher’s future remains uncertain in the new season as the 24-year-old is reportedly keen to secure more regular playing time.

However, proposed candidates Brentford, Brighton and Tottenham have already taken steps to bolster their goalkeeping ranks, potentially ruling out a transfer from Kelleher.

Wolves are the latest team to be linked as they prepare for a potential Jose Sa departure. However, it remains to be seen if interest will ultimately be cemented.

In May, Klopp insisted Liverpool must receive an “extraordinary” offer to consider selling Kelleher this summer.

He said: “Honestly, I can’t imagine Caoimh leaving. Must be an amazing offer that I’m starting to think about, I must say.

Dominik Szoboszlai is one of the other players to miss Monday’s friendly as the midfielder recovers from a minor ankle problem.
