We have breaking news coming out of New Orleans, where a former Detroit Lions quarterback is on the verge of taking over as the next head coach of the New Orleans Saints. Kellen Moore, who played for the Lions from 2012 to 2014, is reportedly the leading candidate for the position.
Currently, Moore serves as the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, who are preparing to face off against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59 this Sunday. However, while Moore is widely considered the front-runner for the Saints job, no official agreement has been made yet. This is due to Moore being unavailable for further discussions until after the Super Bowl.
Moore, who began his NFL journey with the Lions as an undrafted free agent out of Boise State in 2012, never saw action in a regular season game but spent three seasons as a backup to Matthew Stafford.

In 2015, despite not being offered a restricted free agent contract, Moore briefly returned to the team on a two-year deal. But, after the preseason, he was waived and ended up with the Dallas Cowboys.
His time in Dallas would prove to be the final stretch of his playing career. Moore appeared in three games in 2015, starting two, and accumulated 779 yards, four touchdowns, and six interceptions. But his post-playing career is where Moore truly began to shine. In 2018, he shifted to coaching as the Cowboys’ quarterbacks coach, and by the following year, was promoted to offensive coordinator. He served in that role for five years before moving on to the Los Angeles Chargers as their offensive coordinator in 2023.
This season, Moore took on the same position with the Philadelphia Eagles, where his offensive strategy has helped lead the team to a Super Bowl, with notable performances, including a standout season from running back Saquon Barkley, who rushed for over 2,000 yards.
As Moore aims for a Super Bowl victory this Sunday, it looks like he could soon be taking the reins as a head coach for the New Orleans Saints in the near future.
